Applied Biometrics for the security of Critical Infrastructure

The Group discussed the continuing input to biometric-related standards, in particular the latest draft of ISO 30137-1, which addresses the use of biometrics in video surveillance systems. The standard is currently at 3rd Working Draft with the aim to get it to Committee Draft at the ISO SC37 meeting in July. It was agreed that the latest draft will be circulated to all members of the thematic group for their contributions. The Group also discussed privacy issues associated with the use of biometric technology and video surveillance, and identified potential collaboration with other JRC projects and with the European Association for Biometrics. It was agreed that privacy should be considered as possible future activity by the Group.
